The Punisher reportedly the villain of Daredevil S2

Fans rejoiced when Jon Bernthal was cast in the role of The Punisher for Daredevil's second season. One immediate query that sprung out of the announcement was whether or not he would play a friend or enemy of the Man Without Fear.

The dark, brooding anti-hero has somewhat of a different approach to tackling crime in comparison to Matt Murdock - where Murdock adopts the "leave 'em maimed, but don't kill them" tactic, Frank Castle's methods often leave his opponents riddled with bullets. It should come as no surprise that the Punisher is set to play the main villain of the sophomore season.

According to a report from Nerdist, the series' new showrunner Marco Ramirez has confirmed that the overall arc of the season will essentially be Daredevil vs. The Punisher. It's expected to lift its inspiration from the comic Daredevil Vs. Punisher: Means and Ends, written by David Lapham, which picks up with - SEASON ONE SPOILER - Hell's Kitchen in disarray after Kingpin is locked behind bars. Daredevil attempts to clean up the streets in his own way, while the Punisher opts for a less diplomatic approach.

With the two characters each operating in the name of justice, while taking wildly different paths to achieve it, the new team of showrunners ought to be able to squeeze out plenty of gritty fight scenes between the pair. Who knows, they might even top the jaw-dropping corridor scene from season one.

Daredevil returns to Netflix in 2016.
