Martin Sheen confirmed for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Last week saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2 confirm a trio of new additions to the cast in the form of Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley, and now Martin Sheen has also confirmed that he will be returning.

“They've called me back," said Sheen. "I don't know what the part is gonna be, but I'm going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February."

Seeing as Uncle Ben was shot dead in the first film, Sheen will almost certainly be appearing in a flashback capacity, as Peter finds himself tortured by the part he played in the old man’s demise.

Family should hopefully be at the heart of the sequel, with much of the mystery surrounding the fate of Peter’s parents having been left unexplained in the first film. The suggestion was that that story arc was deliberately clipped with a sequel in mind, so hopefully it will be explored further this time out.

Directed by Marc Webb and co-starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in the UK on 18 April 2014.
