Rockstar Games and Team Bondi are getting the red carpet treatment. Today, the duo announced that its upcoming 40s-era crime title, L.A Noire, has become the first videogame to be accepted as an Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Cue the tiresome games as art debate in 3... 2...
"We're thrilled that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival in this way. It's a real honor, and another step forward for interactive entertainment," said Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser in today's announcement.
"What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking, It's an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier," added Gilmore.
The Tribeca Film Festival started in 2002 as an initiative by Robert De Niro and his high-profile film buddies to celebrate New York's film history and to raise funds for the city's post-9/11 recovery. This year's festival runs April 20th to May 1st.
If you can't catch the L.A. Noire "screening," you could always wait a few weeks to play it yourself on May 17th in North America and May 20th in the UK.
