A German hacker known as graf_chokolo is the latest casualty in Sony's war on PS3 hackers. A rep from Sony Europe has today confirmed that the company was involved in yesterday's police raid of the notorious coder's house, during which computers and suspicious materials were confiscated.
"Guys, SONY was today at my home with police and got all my stuff and accounts. So be careful from now on," wrote graf_chokolo on his PS3 Linux and Hypervisor Reverse Engineering blog shortly after the incident.
Undaunted by the invasion, and eager to prove that he wasn't pulling a fast one on the community, graf_chokolo quickly posted his 'The Hypervisor Bible,' a file reported to contain all of graf_chokolo's knowledge on how to jailbreak the PS3 and make short work of Sony's encryptions.
The release was accompanied by one of graf_chokolo's last posts stating, "Guys, I don’t joke, it’s serious. And to prove it, I kept my word and uploaded all my HV reversing stuff. Upload it everywhere so SONY couldn’t remove it easily. Grab it guys, it contains lots of knowledge about HV and HV procs."
Now that Sony has confirmed its actions to Kotaku, this event drives home the serious nature of Sony's hacker crackdown. It sounds like graf_chokolo got his revenge - did Sony's actions fit the crime?
