Tom Hardy could play both Kray twins in crime thriller Legend

In some of the most surprising casting news this year, Tom Hardy looks set to play both notorious London gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray in crime thriller Legend .

The Dark Knight Rises (opens in new tab) star is currenlty in negotations to headline the film as the infamous, identical twins, who carved a bloody path through London in the '50s and '60s with their gang The Firm.

Legend (which is a working title, and may change) is being written and directed by Brian Helgeland, whose previous credits include stand-out crime adaptation L.A. Confidential (opens in new tab) and Mystic River (opens in new tab) , which suggests Helgeland will be delivering something unapologetic and hard-hitting.

Though a deal's yet to be struck, we'd love to see Hardy in this cray cray role.

He'll next shoot Elton John biopic Rocketman , with Mad Max: Fury Road, Locke and Child 44 already in the can.
