Penelope’s Pirate Cruz
Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to star opposite Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog . The article speculates that while "character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways." But why’s she still "in negotiations"? Doesn’t everybody want to star opposite Johnny Depp?
Earthbound, a novel by legendary SF author Richard (I Am Legend) Matheson, has been optioned for a movie by veteran producing duo Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, reports The Hollywood Reporter . The Parkes/MacDonald production company has been behind such films as Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal, as well as The Time Machine, The Island and Sweeney Todd. The story is about a married man who starts an affair with a young stranger, only to realise that she may actually be the ghost of a long-dead woman driven by something much more than earthly passion. "Richard Matheson's novels and short stories have been adapted into some of the most memorable science fiction and fantasy films ever produced, from Steven Spielberg's landmark Duel, to the elegant time-travel romance Somewhere in Time, to last year's mega-hit I Am Legend," says Parkes. "We're excited to have the opportunity to work on one of this extraordinary author's most intimate and suspenseful novels."
Live Action Akira Movie Back On?
Warner Bros proposes live-action remake of the classic anime movie Akira has had an on-off development history, but for the moment it looks like the project is back on, with Book Of Eli directors the Hughes brothers at the helm, if Heat Vision Blog is to be believed. Interestingly, the scriptwriter for Book Of Eli, Gary Whitta, has been working on an Aklira script for a good few years now, so maybe he convinced the Brothers to take on the project… ("Hey guys, I've got this script under the bed…!")
