Michael Douglas is Hank Pym in Ant-Man

Marvel has dropped some huge casting news in relation to Edgar Wright's Ant-Man , confirming that Michael Douglas will play Hank Pym.

It had widely been assumed that Paul Rudd would be playing the role of Pym, but it now transpires he will be playing Scott Lang, a common thief who steals the Ant-Man equipment from its creator.

"With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Kevin Feige.

“We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

Wright had previously hinted that he wanted to work both Pym and Lang into his story, and it seems that he's got his way. We must admit, however, that that casting took us completely by surprise!

Ant-Man opens in the US on 31 July 2015, with a UK date to be confirmed.
