Pick a faction and fight for territory across a fractured America in brutal team-based shooter Terminal War
Terminal War is bringing strong The Last of Us online Factions vibes, and arrives in Steam Early Access later in 2026
It's the late 1990s, and in this alternate timeline World War 3 took place a few years previously to leave the United States ravaged and on the brink of collapse. Against this post-apocalyptic backdrop, resources and territory mean everything, and as seen during the Future Games Show's sister-show FGS Live From Los Angeles, the battle to control them is nothing short of brutal.
In Terminal War you must join one of three factions, ranging from unified soldiers to grassroots militias, then fight in multiplayer matches to take control of a variety of zones across America. Resources are scarce, so you need to think strategically and plan your attacks carefully, as charging in guns blazing will quickly exhaust your limited ammunition and leave you exposed to an enemy counter.
The third-person perspective and series of devastating melee kills seen in the trailer draw significant parallels with the original The Last of Us' online multiplayer mode Factions, which I played extensively, and if Albatross Interactive can capture something similar with Terminal War then they're on to a good thing. The heightened tension of sneaking around multi-level combat zones, laying traps for enemies and trying to get the drop on them without being spotted is an experience like no other, so I'm excited to see this in action when Early Access launches.
Terminal War is coming to Steam Early Access later in 2026, so you should wishlist it now on Steam to be notified when it becomes available. Future releases are also planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, so you can join the official Discord or follow the game on X for all of the latest news.
