Doug Cockle's been at the forefront of The Witcher games for almost two decades, imbuing Geralt of Rivia with his iconic smoky growl in all three games, plus one animated film, but he'll soon be taking a backseat in The Witcher 4 while 'child of surprise' Ciri takes the driver's seat. And he has absolutely no notes for Ciri's new voice, Ciara Berkeley.
"I have met her [Berkeley]," the prolific actor told us at The Golden Joystick Awards 2025. "I only spoke with her briefly, just today. We exchanged some DMs a couple of weeks ago just to say hi... She's lovely, and I think she's going to do a great job. She's got a fantastic presence in person.
"I don't really have any advice. I've offered to chat with her if she has any questions or anything like that, but she's a strong person. She's going to be fine."
When asked if he had any advice on keeping a tight lid on the games - fans are always looking for maybe spoilerific details about The Witcher 4, after all - Cockle gave a very media-trained answer: "I have no idea what you're talking about."
For what it's worth, Cockle will return as Geralt in the upcoming RPG fourquel. You can even hear his voice in The Witcher 4's debut trailer. It's just that, this time, for the first time, he'll apparently have a supporting role. "Geralt will be a part of the game," Cockle said last year. "We just don't know how much, and the game won't focus on Geralt, so it's not about him this time."

Kaan freelances for various websites including Rock Paper Shotgun, Eurogamer, and this one, Gamesradar. He particularly enjoys writing about spooky indies, throwback RPGs, and anything that's vaguely silly. Also has an English Literature and Film Studies degree that he'll soon forget.
