Divinity director Swen Vincke has no choice but to discuss the ending of Larian's next RPG after a 19 roll for Persuasion: "It ends with a lot of fire"
Almost a crit pass – almost
After making the smash hit Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios is returning to the series that built the studio, Divinity, for a new installment. We know next to nothing about the upcoming RPG – beyond the fact that it'll be quite violent, going by the reveal trailer – though Larian founder Swen Vincke has just given us a tidbit about how it'll end.
He was corralled into doing so during a livestream where some Larian devs revisit Divinity: Original Sin 2. When a fan asks him about how Divinity ends, Vincke says at first, "I could have said with the credits. That would be the easy way out…" before throwing the question to chat for suggestions. He promises to acknowledge a prediction that’s in the ballpark.
At this juncture, I should point out he's sworn to honesty to the power of 19 on a d20, as rolled before the questioning started. That's exceedingly close to a critical pass, giving him little wriggle room.
"So many of them are correct," he adds. "It ends with the credits, it ends depending on what you do… so here's an absolute scoop for chat – it ends with a lot of fire, of course."
We probably could've guessed that given the fiery teaser, but I'll take it. Choice played a large part in Original Sin 2's ending as well, as the game offered several conclusions depending on your sensibilities. I'd expect Vincke here is referencing at least one, if not multiple, possible endings for this next Divinity installment.
Though, he throws in a "perhaps" right at the end, to cover the one point off on his dice roll. Even taking such vagueness into account, this Divinity probably won't be too comfortable for any pyrophobes. However, pyromaniacs might be about to have a very good time, indeed.
