Baldur's Gate 3 devs tip their hat to fellow RPG Fable: "Oh my f***ing god this game just became my most anticipated"
Chicken kicking and infinite marriages were enough to convince Larian developers
Playground Games has finally lifted the lid and properly shown off its Fable reboot, chickens galore, basically two console generations after the last game in the series. The blockbuster fairytale did more than just make me, personally, very excited to marry and divorce all of Albion – it's impressed fellow RPG developers behind Baldur's Gate 3.
The British studio swung its doors off its hinges yesterday when it showed up to Xbox's Developer Direct show with lots to say about Forza Horizon 6 and Fable, giving us a look at the latter's action combat, changing world, 1,000 NPCs, and life sim mechanics that let you buy up every property in the land or become a broke divorcee with three children.
"I enjoyed the Fable showcase – the world looks gorgeous," Larian Studios CEO and Baldur's Gate 3 director Swen Vincke tweeted just after the deep dive. "Eager to see more."
"You can tell Fable is a fantasy role-playing game because in it you can become a landlord," Larian's publishing director Michael Douse quips online, before noticing the game almost has its "very own Dark Urge run."
One of the very cool parts of the upcoming game is that basically every NPC – all 1,000 of them, who are apparently all handcrafted – will have a different opinion of you depending on your choices. For example, the Developer Direct showed how one commoner thought our hero was a 'Rich Twat' for buying up every business, which was enough to convince Douse: "Oh my fucking god this game just became my most anticipated."
"Only real ones can determine based British humor from performative British Twee and I am happy to say Fable seems to be on the right side of the wry," he adds. "Super curious to see what the US makes of it when it comes out."
Check out GamesRadar+'s exclusive interview with the devs to learn how Fable's open world fantasy lets you meddle in the lives of over 1000 living NPCs: "We've stuck with the ambition we had right at the start"
