The Assassin's Creed Shadows team have big plans to weave Kassandra (AC Odyssey's charmer) into the game's evolving story. The benefits of being an immortal 2,000-year-old Greek badass, eh?
For those out of the loop, Assassin's Creed Shadows' latest update included both a divisive collaboration with hit anime series Attack on Titan and an unrelated side quest called A Puzzlement, which took players through an Animus door into a cave housing a glowing statue of Kassandra. Strange considering that, again, this is a relic of a 2,000-year-old woman hiding in Japan, of all places.
The fan favorite Assassin's Creed Odyssey protagonist is no stranger to world-hopping, though. She previously showed up in person in a post-launch Assassin's Creed Valhalla quest, even though hundreds of years set those two games apart.
Associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois has now revealed that Kassandra spent her time in Japan doing more than just dragging a hulking statue into a cave, and Ubisoft might just let us in on her secrets sometime soon.
"We really want to see Kassandra in there," Lemay-Comtois told YouTuber JorRaptor in a recent interview. "And, yes, she's immortal at this point in time and she could very well show up in Japan, so we kind of connected the dots together. Without revealing what it is, we made up a story of when she went to Japan. What did she do there? She did more, ostensibly, than just put stuff in a cave."
The lead developer also hinted that Kassandra didn't cross the continents on her lonesome. As she did in her own game, "she basically has a whole ship" and a whole crew, "so, she gets porters to carry the heavy stuff."
Details are under wraps at the moment, but there is a plan in place and the mysterious statue isn't there purely for fan service. "We have a justification for why there is a Kassandra statue bought by Kassandra in a cave," Lemay-Comtois went on. "We might reveal it at some point later. We did our homework. We [didn't] just drop Kassandra there. And this is not the last Isu content there will be in Assassin's Creed Shadows."

Elsewhere in the chat, the developer revealed Assassin's Creed Shadows will continue to get "chunkier updates" throughout next year to make up for the lack of a full-on expansion. If Kassandra or one of her crew were to pop up in-game, they'll probably be a part of whatever updates Shadows has in store for 2026.
