The Wolf Among Us 2 finally releases in 2027, with a remaster of the original due out this holiday season
The Big Bad Wolf is back in town.
"It's been a long, long, long eight years," began the trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 during Summer Game Fest. It's true enough, as the game was first announced in 2019 and has since gone through a tumultuous development cycle. But it seems the wait may finally be over, with the announcement of a 2027 release window. Fingers crossed it doesn't get pushed again.
The original Wolf Among Us was released episodically throughout 2013 and 2014. The game, an original story in the world of comic series Fables, let players explore a New York City neighborhood inhabited by folktales such as Snow White, Cinderella, and the Big Bad Wolf. That last character goes by Bigby Wolf in this world and serves as the sheriff of the neighborhood. The original Wolf Among Us had players solving the latest mysteries (including murder most foul) through the choice-based gameplay that Telltale Games was known for.
After the closure of Telltale in 2018, the project's fate was unknown. Telltale was revived soon after by LCG entertainment who announced the sequel in 2019. It was developed in part by Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio until 2023. The project was delayed out of 2023 indefinitely and many fans, myself included, had almost given up hope on the sequel ever materializing. The trailer, however, gives us new hope. The sequel looks good, showing old and new faces.
Of course Bigby is at the center of it and we get a good look at him brooding over a conspiracy board complete with string. What new case will await us? We get some dialogue that six homicides have occurred, each case a husband and wife found shredded. I guess we will find out more in 2027.
If you need a refresher on Bigby's story, the original game is getting a remaster set to release this holiday season.
