Capcom finally confirms Onimusha: Way of the Sword is coming this September, demo releases today
A real shot in the arm
Capcom has finally confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is releasing on September 25, 2026.
After first being announced at The Game Awards 2024, Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been one of my most anticipated games, and after a ton of trailers that sadly ended without a release date, today's PlayStation State of Play trailer finally confirmed we'll only need to wait three more months to get our hands on the full game. Plus, the PlayStation Blog also revealed some info about what we saw.
The new trailer features an action-packed look at Miyamoto Musashi fighting through a castle on top of Mount Oe in order to reach its owner, "a colossal Genma" who "claims to be Shuten Doji, the Oni of legend." The boss taunts Musashi for rejecting the power of the Oni, and goes on to kick his ass easily, with the end of the trailer showing him taking on a Devil Trigger-esque Oni form, although we don't see this in action during any gameplay segments.
Well actually, we'll get our first hands-on even sooner, as Capcom also confirmed that a demo for the game is set to release later today, and will feature multiple combat encounters. This includes a boss fight against "Musashi's formidable rival, Saksaki Ganryu." Perhaps more importantly, you get a cute little trinket as a reward for playing the demo.
And, while the State of Play and Onimusha Twitter account didn't clarify, the Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo will be multiplatform, in fact, it's already live over on Steam.
