Beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic The Last Ronin is getting a game from action royalty: Nier Automata and Bayonetta maker PlatinumGames
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin follows Ninja Gaiden 4, and looks the part
The next game from Ninja Gaiden 4 co-dev and Nier: Automata, and Bayonetta developer PlatinumGames is an adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic mini-series The Last Ronin.
Announced at tonight's Summer Game Fest live show, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin will seemingly be filling the shoes of the Last Ronin game announced by THQ Nordic in 2023.
We don't have anything in the way of gameplay, but given Platinum's pedigree, there's little doubt as to what's in store. We've got a turtle warrior sporting a couple of swords. Put on some tinted sunglasses and we're almost back in Ninja Gaiden 4.
"When all that remains is vengeance," the trailer teases. The tagline for an official website for The Last Ronin reads, "Join the resistance."
Paramount is, unsurprisingly, deeply involved in the project. A blurb on the website confirms, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is a AAA action-adventure game being developed by Platinum Games. Based on the popular comic book series, TMNT: The Last Ronin follows the last surviving Ninja Turtle as he embarks on a desperate mission for vengeance."
The trailer blurb adds a bit more detail: "In a future, battle-ravaged New York City, a lone surviving Turtle embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission seeking justice for the family he lost."
The new game is coming to PC and consoles at an unclear date. The Last Ronin's reveal comes alongside the news of Paramount forming a new "unified" gaming studio "designed to transform world-class IP into immersive franchise experiences," per a press release.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
There's some Last Ronin comic news, too: "Fans also now have exclusive access to a 10-page preview of the comic 'The Last Ronin: Training Day' by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, with art by the Escorza Brothers and Ben Bishop. In stores on July 9, 2026, 'Training Day' is a one-shot prequel set between issues #3 and #4 of 'The Last Ronin,' focusing on Michelangelo during a 24-hour period as he trains Casey Marie Jones, the daughter of April O’Neil and Casey Jones."
The Last Ronin, popular among TMNT fans as well as some folks who bounced off the main series, was also previously on course for a live-action film adaptation, but that's been missing for over a year. If anyone can turn the series' adaptation luck around, it's Platinum.
Cuphead devs announce two new games: a hand-animated successor, and an 8-bit throwback.
