How to use recipes and cook food in Beast of Reincarnation
Cooking in Beast of Reincarnation is done by Kagura, the girl on the Cleanse Walker
Cooking recipes and food in Beast of Reincarnation is a mechanic wherein Emma can create meals for stat bonuses back at the hub, though the game is a bit unclear about how this process works. Players are likely to be going through Beast of Reincarnation and finding recipes and food ingredients, but not have any real clarity about how those things are used and how you cook meals. In fact, it's not the player that's meant to do it, as there's an NPC you're meant to talk to that will cook these things for you, as I'll explain below.
How do you cook food in Beast of Reincarnation and use recipes?
To cook food in Beast of Reincarnation requires several steps, as it's not actually Emma who does this, but Kagura. Here's how it works:
- Find meal recipes in the world or purchase them from merchants.
- Go back to the Cleanse Walker hub and speak to Kagura, next to the workbench where you upgrade weapons in Beast of Reincarnation.
- Choose "Cooking Research" from the menu and select the recipe you want her to learn permanently.
- This will take time. Come back later and Kagura will have learned the recipe permanently.
- When you next choose to rest in the Cleanse Walker, you'll be given a list of the recipes that Kagura knows. As long as she has the ingredients, you can choose that one.
- Afterwards, you'll be shown a brief cinematic of Emma, Koo and Kagura eating.
- The next day when she wakes up, Emma will gain a stat increase that varies depending on the meal she consumed.
- Eating a meal for the first time grants a better enhancement. This should motivate players towards a diverse diet and to keep researching recipes.
It's worth clarifying that Beast of Reincarnation draws a distinction between the meals that Kagura cooks and the hunger-preventing rations that you can take with you out into the world. Kagura's meals provide stat bonuses, whereas the rations delay the onset of hunger for you and Koo.
Ingredients for meals can be purchased from merchants or grown in the Cleanse Walker at the room at the back next to the shower, where the option to grow vegetables and keep small livestock like chickens is presented to you. These both take time to produce ingredients, but it's good to have them going, and to research meals that require very little in terms of produce, so you always have something to eat.
