Beast of Reincarnation director "truly sorry" that Pokemon dev's new action-RPG hasn't "provided a sufficiently enjoyable experience"
That said, he's confident a lot of the game is resonating with fans all the same
Unfortunately, reactions to Game Freak's new action-RPG Beast of Reincarnation haven't been the strongest, with players complaining about performance issues and other problsm. The studio, most widely known for Pokemon, is aware of the problems, and the devs are hard at work rectifying whatever they can.
Kota Furushima, game director, spoke to 4Gamer about the response and how the team is handling it. "I honestly feel that there are still areas in the game that require our sincere attention," he says, as translated by Automaton. "I'm truly sorry that parts of the game haven’t provided a sufficiently enjoyable experience."
It's worth noting this was before the first big post-launch patch, meaning his position may have since softened. But it's still a solid reminder that developers are often more than aware of the same problems you're seeing; they're just playing whack-a-mole with everything.
That said, Beast of Reincarnation "needs polishing," according to Fukushima, and Game Freak is digging in to provide as much as possible in the coming weeks and months. On the flipside, he's confident in the flow with your canine companion, and he believes the atmosphere is especially distinctive for the genre.
"I feel the aspect of defeating enemies alongside your partner has been well-received, and we’ve also received positive reactions regarding the overall atmosphere of the game," he comments. "I think the unique post-apocalyptic vibe of the world is resonating with many players."
I'll definitely give Beast of Reincarnation that much; it has a sense of place I'd put up there with Nier: Automata. But then, I have a soft spot for overgrown cities where plants are gradually subsuming our concrete tombs. In any case, it seems like you can expect plenty more fixes and changes to the game soon.
