window of opportunity to fight.

V - Items of Interest

__________________________________________________________

Items of interest are the rare items you hear about but

aren't sure where or how to locate them. This section

will cover the majority of these items.

Treasure Hunter (Augment)

_________________________

I've listed this first because it is probably the most

helpful in helping you to get rare item drops. Once you

equip this augment on a character it will double your

chances of having a rare item drop after a battle.

To obtain this augment all you have to do is complete

all of the dungeon maps. Sounds easy and actually is but

the only down side is that you must map out the final

areas of the game to get it.

Sirens

______

What exactly is a siren? Well, it is an item used out of

battle that will cause monsters to attack you.

Why would you want such an item? Because it usually

summons some of the monsters that are more difficult to

encounter in a given dungeon, which creatures usually

carry the rare items you are looking for. So, to find the

rare items, it isn't necessary, but it helps to have

sirens.

Ok, so how do you get sirens? They usually appear as

rare drops from certain enemies in the game, but can also

be stolen from two. The following chart shows the enemy,

its number in relation to the bestiary, and the chance

of it dropping or of you stealing a siren.

Once you reach Hummingway Abode, you can buy sirens for

3000 Gil each, but until you do, if you want to get your

hands on them, you'll have to settle for drops or stealing.

As you can see, the best enemy to use to get sirens from

is the Searcher and that it is better to try to steal it.

Through out the game you are able to find more summons for

Rydia to use. Some of these are item drops and some are

rewarded after successfully winning specific battles.

The summon drops are Goblin, Cockatrice, Bomb, and

Mindflayer. This chart shows you which enemies drop

which summon and the (very low) chance that it will happen.

While it would seem that the Flan Princess is the better

choice with a full 1% chance of it being dropped, the

Yellow Jelly would actually be the best choice.

The Yellow Jelly is the best choice because they are an

enemy that appears quite early in the game and they are

much easier to both encounter and kill.

So, what's the deal with tails? Tails are rare item drops

that can be traded for some of the best armor in the game!

If you find any of the tails listed below, take them to

the Tail Collector in the Adamant Isle Grotto to trade

them in.

Ribbons

Why are ribbons so special? If you have to ask that,

it is very obvious that you are new to the Final Fantasy

franchise. Ribbons are one of the many staples of the

series, appearing in every Final Fantasy game and

performing the same function: preventing most status

effects!

There are three enemies you can fight to get ribbons. But

really, there are only two because the third is a boss

that you can only fight once. The other two enemies

appear quite often, but being such a valuable item, the

drop rates are low.

Cursed Ring

If you have already found one of these and equipped it

surely you noticed the significant drop in your stats.

Why would anyone want this as their armor? With it

equipped, items that normally heal you will hurt you

and items that would normally hurt you will heal you.

It is a tricky piece of armor that can be handy if used

correctly.
