The biggest launch this month is The Boroughs – a new supernatural thriller from the team behind Stranger Things. Netflix will be expecting big things from this one, and we're very intrigued to find out more. But that's not all, as you can see in our recommendations below. A quick note: as it's only the middle of April, we don't have the full list of titles yet, and some are still to be confirmed. Pick of the month for May 2026

The Boroughs

Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers have already moved onto their next project. Precise details are being kept quiet for now, but what we do know is that it follows "a group of unlikely heroes" in a retirement community who team up to take on a supernatural threat. Sounds a bit like a modern take on Bubba Ho-Tep to us.

There's a great cast on this one, including Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Alfred Molina, and Alfre Woodard. Stranger Things is undoubtedly going to be a tough act to follow, but we have faith in the Duffers and are very intrigued to see how this pans out.

Devil May Cry season 2

Dante returns in the second run of this epic animated video game adaptation. Our hero may have gotten to grips with his demonic heritage in the first season, but in the show's final moments, it was revealed that his long-lost twin brother Vergil is back. Now the two are set on a collision course that could change everything.

Season 2 looks set to be a bigger, better, and darker series, with showrunner Adi Shankar describing it as being like "the difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight." Strong praise! Consider us officially intrigued.

Lord of the Flies

This brilliant four-part adaptation of William Golding's classic novel recently aired on the BBC in the UK. Written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, His Dark Materials, Enola Holmes), it's a stylishly shot and atmospheric retelling of the classic tale. A plane carrying a group of young boys crashes, stranding the survivors on a tropical island. While they wait for potential rescue, they form a society. As the days turn into weeks, however, conflict starts to brew.

Lord of the Flies is a famously dark tale. Thorne's adaptation doesn't shy away from that, but it's also stylishly shot and directed, with uniformly great performances from its young cast, some of whom seem destined for great things. Highly recommended.
