Resident Evil movie director Zach Cregger proves he's the right person for the job after revealing he's beaten Requiem twice already

Resident Evil movie director Zach Cregger has once again proven his Resi street cred ahead of the horror adaptation's release.

As revealed by Deadline writer Destiny Jackson on Twitter, Cregger has already beaten the latest release Resident Evil Requiem twice already.

In a follow-up, Jackson said that Cregger "noped out" of what he called the "scariest" entry in the series: Resident Evil Village (Resident Evil 7 takes the crown for me, but we're still having nightmares about the monster dwelling in House Beneviento, so fair enough).

Set for release on September 18, Zach Cregger's Resident Evil is seemingly set to sidestep the myriad legacy characters and forge its own path in the franchise, which marks its 30th anniversary this week.

"It's an entirely original story," Cregger told Entertainment Weekly last year. "When you watch it, you'll be like, 'This is very Zach.' It's just [that] it takes place in the Resident Evil world. I don't think fans of the games are gonna be bummed."

Little wonder then that Cregger, who cut his horror teeth with modern classics Barbarian and Weapons, is apparently being given "carte blanche" on the project, with one producer describing it as a "roller coaster ride of nonstop action."

Resident Evil Requiem, meanwhile, has become the fastest-selling entry in Capcom's legendary series, already hitting the six million mark. The new title sees Leon Kennedy make his way back to Raccoon City alongside Grace Ashcroft for a chilling adventure filled with scares and more than its fair share of shotgun shells.
