The first trailer for the highly-anticipated The One Piece remake project is here, and it's back to humble beginnings of Monkey D. Luffy on his quest for the mythical pirate treasure.
The One Piece trailer begins with the King of the Pirates Gold Roger and his "dying words" that launch a Grand Line-spanning quest for the One Piece.
With a spruce up in animation and art style, the classic first arc of the One Piece saga has certainly been given a modern-day makeover. The sizzle reel of the Straw Hats and some of their greatest early adventures proves the remake is in good hands with Attack on Titan's Studio Wit, too.
Releasing in February 2027 and brought to life by Studio Wit, Netflix has confirmed that The One Piece's first season will consist of seven bumper-length episodes, clocking in at five hours total.
The adaptation of the first 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda's manga, the East Blue Arc, will also be released all at once on the streamer. That's a far cry from the months-long gap that formed part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run release schedule.
Studio Wit president George Wada has previously commented on exactly why One Piece is being remade by his studio, pointing towards the old 4:3 ratio as a major stumbling block for a new generation of viewers.
Wada later remarked that the goal is for The One Piece to have "flawless pacing." After all, the original One Piece anime is the poster child for the dreaded f-word: filler. Judging by the trailer, it's full speed ahead on the swashbuckling adventure.
The One Piece is releasing next February.
