Even as we speak the cameras are rolling on Star Wars Episode 8, which obviously means stuff exists and can be seen with eyes and, consequently posted to Instagram.
The shots below were taken by Jim Merkel and show some of the Dubrovnik set from Croatia.
This is all happening on a street called Stradun according to The Dubrovnik Times, which is the main road running through the centre of town. Those doors being dressed up are actually for a local souvenir shop. The newspaper also had a few extra shots of the work being done:
There's no sign of actors yet, obviously, as it's all still being built, and no hint of where this might be in The Star Wars universe or its role in the film. There is a slight hint of the prequel's Naboo to those pillars though, maybe we'll see the Gungans back in ep 8? [Ducks thrown objects.]
Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: Episode VIII opens on December 15, 2017.
