The X-Files to make a TV comeback?

Thirteen years after Chris Carter's groundbreaking TV series came off the air, The X-Files could be heading back to the small screen.

Deadline report that Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden has been sounding out the show's original creative team – creator Chris Carter, plus stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny – to see if they'd be available to resurrect the show.

While there's no word yet if any of the original three will return, early talk suggests that if The X-Files did come back, it would be for a “limited run” rather than a full season order.

The news comes seven years after Mulder and Scully reunited in movie The X-Files: I Want To Believe, which was both a critical and commercial disappointment (it made just $30m on its $69m budget).

With other cult '90s favourite Twin Peaks also primed for a TV reboot in 2016, TV fans could be in for a real time-warp of a treat if The X-Files also returned.

Will it ever happen? The truth is out there...
