Ryan Gosling will make his directorial debut with How To Catch A Monster

It's about to get a whole lot more handsome behind the camera with the news that Ryan Gosling is poised to make his directorial debut in the form of How To Catch A Monster .

Described as a "modern day fairytale" the film will star Gosling's Drive colleague Christina Hendricks as a single mother who makes a bizarre discovery that turns her life and that of her teenage son upside down.

" Written and directed by Ryan Gosling ," begins the official blurb, "How To Catch A Monster weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive ."

Sounds like fairly bold subject material for a first-time director, and it will be interesting to see how Gosling handles this one. At present, he is currently wrapping on Only God Forgives , while he and Nicolas Winding Refn have another project in the works in the form of a Logan's Run remake.

How To Catch A Monster is expected to begin filming in the spring, and given that Gosling is also writing the screenplay and acting as producer, it should keep the star busy for a good while to come. Sorry, ladies...
