Isla Fisher in talks for Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby

Isla Fisher is in talks to play pivotal supporting character Myrtle Wilson in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby .

Myrtle has an affair with Tom Buchanan (as yet uncast), husband of Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan).

Fisher has been gradually building a name for herself as a gifted comedic actress, so it'll be interesting to see what she does with more dramatic material.

Before Gatsby , Fisher will be leading 'female Hangover ' Desperados , and she has recently appeared in Rango , Burke and Hare and Confessions of a Shopaholic .

Ben Affleck won't be appearing in Gatsby , though. He was said to be up for the role of Tom Buchanan, but he's had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with his next directorial effort, Argo .

It shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement to join a cast that includes Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Despite a number of stop-starts, Luhrmann's F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation still has a 2012 release date pencilled in.
