Even though Ryan Murphy's horror comedy Scream Queens dwindled quality-wise in the middle of its first season, Fox is still certain that the future of the offbeat series is worth exploring. Today the network announced that the show has been renewed for a second season, along with music drama Empire which also received the thumbs up for its third season.
Since debuting, Empire has snagged killer ratings and one of its stars Taraji P. Henson swanned off this year with a Golden Globe for her role as Cookie Lyon. So it's no surprise that the network granted it a renewal.
Murphy's anthology series saw Emma Roberts as insidious sorority president Chanel Oberlin deliver some of the finest one-liners of the year, and it's perhaps the one-off performances that secured its sophomore season. Likewise, Jamie Lee Curtis' wacky Dean Munsch proved a favorite for her deliciously twisted outlook on life. Whether either of them will reprise their roles was for a long time uncertain, as the series will up sticks from the college campus to a hospital for a brand new storyline. However, Deadline reports that they're likely to be back along with Abigail Breslin, Billie Lourd, Keke Palmer, and Lea Michele.
Starring Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere “Yazz” Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey, Kaitlin Doubleday, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones and Serayah McNeill, Empire returns for the latter half of its second season on March 30 in the US. Scream Queens next season is currently without a premiere date.
