Artists launch themselves into the future

Emerging artists win the chance to feature in SCI-FI-LONDON's 'Life In 2050' art show at the Proud Central Gallery

Two designers have won the chance to feature next to leading artists, photographers and illustrators in "Life In 2050", a forthcoming contemporary art exhibition created for the 2010 SCI-FI-LONDON festival. From 22 April to 4 May the Proud Central Gallery will show us glimpses of the future, through the eyes of commissioned from artists around the world, including two new works from the winners of an open-entry competition.

After launching the competition in Digital Arts magazine and the graphic design blogs for Grafik and Creative Review, the visions of the future started flooding in. The standard was so high that exhibition judges Dr Rachel Armstrong (TeD Fellow and SCI-FI-LONDON Science Lab Developer), Andrew Diprose (Art Director, Wired UK magazine) and Claire Howlett (editor of SFX's sister mag Imagine FX ) decided to choose two outstanding entries. Now AS-1 Projects and Dan Jones will exhibit next to industry leaders such as Mario Hugo, Alex Trochut, Tom Gallant and Graham Carter. Overall winner AS-1 Projects (below right) says: "This is great news. I’m honoured to be chosen as the winner. This piece has large meaning to me and it makes me happy to have people acknowledge it."

Emerging graphic design studio Transmission are curators of the exhibition for this year's SCI-FI-LONDON festival. The exhibition runs from Thursday 22 April to Tuesday 4 May 2010, at the Proud Central Gallery: 32 John Adam Street, London, WC2N 8BP. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 11am to 7pm and admission is free.
