Living in an upmarket Manhattan tower block sounds like an incredibly cool thing to do – unless it turns out that the building is owned by a couple of people with a devilish quality to them. That's the set up in 666 Park Avenue , where a young couple (Dave Annable and Rachael Taylor) are hired as caretakers in the Drake Apartments by its owners, played by Terry O'Quinn and Vanessa Williams.
“The series is based on a series of novels called 666 Park Avenue by Gabriella Pierce," explains showrunner Matt Miller. "I think for television there are different needs in terms of stories, so I was encouraged to depart from those novels. Just taking the title of the book, it gives you a sense of a world of mystery and evil. Our approach has been embracing psychological horror. Knowing where the audience’s head is at in any moment of the story, and being able to manipulate that, and mess with it a little bit will hopefully scare the hell out of people. Suspense is what drives our stories more than the spectacle of what happens when they meet their end.”
666 Park Avenue comes to US screens on ABC on Sunday 30 September. [AMEND] It will air on ITV2 in the UK. 666 Park Avenue features in the 24-page Awesome TV Preview bonus mini-mag – part of the new issue of SFX , on sale now – alongside all of the big new shows starting between now and Christmas.
