20. Bottle Rocket (1996)
The firework scene: In Wes Anderson's debut - named after a firework, of course - Anthony (Luke Wilson) and Dignan (Owen Wilson) buy Roman candles and M-80s from a roadside stall.
Don't try it at home: The friends light the fireworks and throw them out of the car window. For God's sake, what if they exploded inside the car?!
19. Sunrise (1927)
The firework scene: As The Man (George O'Brien) and his Wife (Janet Gaynor) reconcile during a trip to the city, the night sky above a carnival is bathed in the dazzling light of a fireworks display.
Don't try it at home: All of this because The Man tried to kill The Wife! Just chillax and watch the lights.
18. The Fisher King (1991)
The firework scene: Jack Lucas (Jeff Bridges) and Parry (Robin Williams), having found closure for their troubled souls, like naked in Central Park to watch a fireworks display.
Don't try it at home: Naked? The NYPD will have you for indecent exposure.
17. Wonderland (1999)
The firework scene: Michael Winterbottom's London-set drama takes place over the course of a November weekend, where Bonfire Night provides an opportunity to bask in the glow of a fireworks display.
Don't try it at home: Bonfire Night also provides excellent cover for thugs to mug a kid for his Walkman.
16. Hana-Bi (1997)
The firework scene: Takeski Kitano's cop thriller is named after the Japanese word for fireworks - literally "fire flowers" - but not many actual fireworks are seen in the film itself, save one rocket that fails to ignite and this picture (painted, in real life, by Takeshi himself).
Don't try it at home: Hey, if you want to paint pictures of fireworks, go ahead.
15. Cape Fear (1991)
The firework scene: Woken by fireworks, Leigh Bowden (Jessica Lange) looks outside and spots her family's tormentor Max Cady (Robert De Niro) sitting menacingly on a neighbouring roof.
Don't try it at home: When you're threatened by an intruder, don't bother with fireworks - they don't last long enough. Invest in security lights instead.
14. Blow Out (1981)
The firework scene: Sound technician Jack Terry (John Travolta) tries to locate kidnapped witness Sally (Nancy Allen) through his earpiece, but it's hard to hear her whereabouts against the backdrop of the Liberty Day Parade fireworks.
Don't try it at home: Good luck trying to hear anything beneath the fireworks.
13. Mary Poppins (1964)
The firework scene: The raucous chimney sweeps' dance is cut short when Admiral Bloom (Reginald Owen) mistakes them for tribesmen and shoots fireworks at them.
Don't try it at home: It's best to avoid living next door to trigger-happy racists.

The firework scene: Life on a Louisiana island for six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) is one long carnival of running around with fireworks - at least, until the flood waters rise too high.
Don't try it at home: Give a child a sparkler, and you will get burnt.

The firework scene: Inevitable, really, as Isaac Davis' (Woody Allen) Gershwin-scored monologue culminates in a fireworks display that illuminates the Manhattan skyline.
Don't try it at home: Best leave the fireworks to officially sanctioned displays, unless you want to be arrested by the NYPD.
