Seeings as Far Cry 3's been outed as a late-September release for Ubisoft, it's about time for the title to start demonstrating how it intends to woo you. These shots offer some clues, mixing up the trailer's handheld descent-into-psychological-turmoil plotline with some good old-fashioned guns 'n' ammo. And explosions, and knives, and cars, and... so forth.

Among the many winsome sights offered by these screens, you'll also note the state-of-the-art, bleeding-edge technology used to render a complete absence of game-crippling supermutants – a welcome development in any game that looks this much like a really, really pretty advance on the original Far Cry. Note also the apparent inclusion of a “collect rare mushrooms for a strange old mentor” section – putting the game in the company of several Zelda games, any number of Carlos Castaneda books, and, um, Cooking Mama? You're free to guess which direction the game may elect to take things...

Allies at certain points?!?! Or at least two factions who fight eachother, according to the second last screen. I'm so happy. Just that addition makes this game 60% better than Far Cry 2, which I adored in spite of itself. You now have one more method of chaos: Starting a fire, hide and seek geurilla-warfare potshots, and starting skirmishes between two factions.

As long as they keep it semi-realistic, I think this will be brilliant. I don't want it going away from Farcry 2, where you had to think before going in all guns blazing.

GUYS, I have a great idea. Even though it is totally unnecessary. What if on PC, someone made a zombie mod? it could be like Dead Island 2.0.. A beautiful tropical setting? open world game play? wayyyy better everything?? Plus zombies for whenever you get board and want to kill tons of shit... which you will do plenty of either way... but seriously this is an awesome idea. I loved Dead Island, BUT.. it was a bit unpolished. This could work though, and well.

Although it horribly reminded me of Lost, the Definition of Insanity trailer was the best teaser I've seen in a while. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Must remember to learn from previous mistakes and not even attempt to run it on a PC though...

The best Graphics i've ever seen during gameplay... Far Cry 3 has it man! It can be the most photorealistic game of the year....

Reminds me of Just Cause 2 except this is in first person and the shadows in the game aren't so pixelated oh yea and a bunch of other stuff Im too lazy to write about.

Lol PC screenshots, followed by some polishing. No way in hell a console will run that at decent frames. And the edges are so smooth. And yes I have a 360 and PS3 lol

The gameplay footage they showed of FC3 at E3 last year was console, and my GOD was that good looking! I showed it to my mate, who doesn't own a console, and prefers PC, and even he was shocked when I told him that was console graphics. GO CHECK IT OUT!

What? Bright, vibrant colors in a shooter? I didn't think this was possible!

Looking pretty incredible so far. Hopefully Crytek delivers, lol. ;P
  • MercurialForce - February 16, 2012 4:42 p.m.

I really hope this game stays away from Far Cry 2's world, where you practically had to commute to every objective.

That wasn't as bad as the fact that you had those annoying respawning checkpoints. The fact that it didn't matter which faction you were helping, they all indiscriminately shot at you. It was just lazy on the developers' part. The malaria that kept you from straying away from exploring was pretty annoying too.

It only gave you exploring boundaries? I always thought it was an actual threat so I was always nervous when I got low on pills and eventually ran on empty.
