Museum Hours review

It’s winter in Vienna, and the gentle Johann (Bobby Sommers), a museum attendant, encounters Canadian Anne (Mary Margaret O’Hara), who’s visiting a hospitalised cousin.

Blurring documentary/fiction boundaries, writer/director Jem Cohen’s film is deceptively simple.

Unwinding at its own gentle pace, Museum Hours delicately explores a platonic friendship between two emotionally reserved people.

Meanwhile, the focus on Breughel’s Flemish Renaissance paintings makes suggestive connections between enduring art and everyday life.
