Marvel vs Capcom 3’s first DLC costumes revealed

When I went to all the trouble of cataloguing the alternate colors for every fighter in Marvel v Capcom 3, I figured it wasn’t the end of different looks for the fighters, but I never would’ve guessed the first set would be revealed so early. In time for the game’s launch today, here’s spiffy new looks for six of the combatants.

Above: Cap brings his original shield to this battle

Above: And Ryu brings his old fighting shoes

They look pretty good if you want to spend 400 MS points/$4.99 on them when they come out March 1, but where do they come from? The Marvel one’s are simple enough for hardcore Marvel Zombie like me. Thor goes all retro, sporting his original design by Jack Kirby all the way back from his first appearance in Journey into Mystery #83. Meanwhile, the Captain America and Iron Man alternates are much more modern. Iron Man switches to the Iron Patriot armor, the persona of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin when he took charge of his own (secretly evil) Avengers. Cap is in his current look of Steve Rogers: Super Soldier, as he recently passed the mantle of Captain America to his former sidekick Bucky.

The Capcom looks are also easy to figure out. Chris Redfield has switched to his old S.T.A.R.S. garb from the first Resident Evil on PlayStation, Dante looks like the human form of his evil father Sparda, and Ryu goes back to his first Street Fighter costume, red shoes and all.

Finally, Capcom celebrated the game’s launch with two more trailers, which I think are worth sharing.

So obviously Capcom is ready to dig pretty deep for some of these costumes. What do you want to see next?

I don't see why this DLC wasn't included in the game as march 1st is less than two weeks away...taking more hard earned money from gamers in my opinion...

What? DLC costumes already? Capcom :O....
  • polarp - February 16, 2011 2:37 a.m.

What an indecent way to hike up the price of a game...that was just released yesterday! btw, as many pointed out before me, Sparda wasn't evil...
  • marioman50 - February 16, 2011 2:04 a.m.

What did I tell you in my comment on Henry's last article? Capcom's bullshit as usual.

I'd also like to see Rad Spencer in his classic costume though I'd take the Re-armed 2 look if for some reason it was in greater demand among the players. Felicia in her nun costume might be a bit tough to fit in with her move set, so if that isn't possible, maybe giving her tiger stripes or giving her back her alternate color scheme with brown skin, black fur and red hair from MVC 2 would do. Zero could use that MegaMan Zero make-over, already. Haggar in his full mayor attire would be preferable to seeing him dressed up like Zangief, but I'm almost certain that's exactly what his alternate costume will do with his duds. Spider-Man could dress up as the Amazing Bag Man or one of his other temporary alternate personas. Chun-Li's leotard from SFA ought to be a good alternate costume though a complete cop uniform with useless firearm holster would be a more interesting change. Alright, that's enough for now. 'Engym bless'? I guess that ReCaptcha is praying for its picks for new costumes to be added,as well.

Sparda wasn't evil. Just the opposite.
  • NightCrawler_358 - February 16, 2011 12:36 a.m.

Played this game alot today, so much fun! Also, I think the Thunderbolts are sweet and would love to make a team of iron Patriot, symbiote Spidey and Wolverine. *cough Daken cough*

Haha, get raped if you want; because that's all this is for consumers. Getting sick of buying %75 of a game for $60 (and no I'm not buying this one!).
  • Riche666 - February 16, 2011 12:09 a.m.

Cap US and Fe Man alt suits are 'tarded.
  • w3ap0nx - February 15, 2011 11:28 p.m.

remember when alt costumes and secret characters where included in the game and not as dlc?? those days are gone =(.
  • Turboash - February 15, 2011 10:41 p.m.

$5 for costumes that could have / should have been included on the disc... now THAT'S how to treat your supporters Capcom! Guess I can't blame them though, there are idiots out there who will actually pay for stuff like this...
  • lukel - February 15, 2011 10:37 p.m.

I want a ken costume. It's the least they can do.
  • KREATIVEassassin - February 15, 2011 10:35 p.m.

The Ben Reilly costume is the alternate I'm wishing for. I love that costume.
  • Lemurian - February 15, 2011 10:11 p.m.

    dantes father wasnt evil
  • hoba - February 15, 2011 9:38 p.m.

I would have preferred a Devil Triggered Dante than a Sparda costume, I think. Especially as Sparda there looks more like Virgil anyway.
  • Corn - February 15, 2011 9:31 p.m.

I wonder, will these alt costumes have alt colors too? And will the Marvel versions of those alt colors also be based on something?
  • SteelArchangel - February 15, 2011 8:51 p.m.

Sorry, Giblet, but Sparda wasn't evil. Also, more Iron Man. He has about 9 billion other costume choices, so he seems like a good repeat choice.
  • NotSteve - February 15, 2011 8:45 p.m.

As long long they give me a retro Bionic Commando costume, there will be no blood.
  • Bobbysayhi - February 15, 2011 8:35 p.m.

Is it a crime to give me more for my money and try to fit that in the game before selling it?
  • epicdominican91 - February 15, 2011 8:17 p.m.

HOLY SHIT THEY REMIXED THE CHARACTER SELECT MENU SONG FROM MVC2!!!!!! reCAPTCHA: delsour Freidlin what is this, I don't even...?
