Marvel vs Capcom 3's director possibly confirms She-Hulk and crushes Phoenix Wright fans' hopes

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 director Ryota Niitsuma fielded some questions at Comic-Con last weekend, giving fans straight talk about which characters won't be making appearances in MVC3 and in the process may have confirmed one who will be.

During one of Capcom's live streams of MVC3, Niitsuma chatted very casually with the hosts and answered fan questions about MVC3 very bluntly, directly saying whether or not certain characters would be in the game. The characters that got the axe? Phoenix Wright, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Daredevil, Emma Frost, and Gene from Godhand. Most notable on the list is probably Phoenix Wright, a character Capcom fans have been clamoring to see in a fighting game since Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Niitsuma is the producer and director for MVC3 so we're inclined to take what he says at face value, though it might all be a giant PR ruse to send Ace Attorney fanboys into a rage. Even more interesting is the potential character Niitsuma's comments may have confirmed.

An article at fighting game site put two and two together, taking Niitsuma's statements and an SRK forum post claiming he had a chat with Capcom community manager Seth Killian. Killian allegedly said that one character between She-Hulk, Daredevil and Phoenix Wright would be in the game. With Daredevil and Phoenix out that leaves the lovely Jennifer Walters, Attorney at law. Of course, this all hinges on the Seth's alleged comments, and as a PR wunderkind we know he's got a stranglehold on MVC3 info, but get a jet lagged, overworked and probably tipsy Japanese game developer on a mic and who knows what he'll say!

And now I'm off to cry in the broom closet about Gene from God Hand not making the cut.

A year and a month ago, I came here and said an angry (yet, ignorant) statement about Phoenix's Wright' exclusion from Marvel vs. Capcom 3. A year and a month later, I am back here to state my joy over his inclusion in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3! I fought hard aside others to get Capcom's attention for this and now it is happening. I can look back on these days and give a laugh. Capcom, all is good between you and me now. You have indeed "fixed it."

    What the fudge, She-Hulk?!
  • Hotdiddykong - July 29, 2010 7:39 a.m.

I'm still keepng my hopes up for pheeny, he was able in tvc with artwork showing he was gonna be there, so there's no excuse, if he's not there then they simple just wanna be dicks to us

Guys, Phoenix Wright still has a second chance. It was seen on the stream at Comic-Con that Shu Takumi(Phoenix Wright creator) said he would box it out with Niitsuma to put Phoenix in if there is enough fan demand and Niitsuma said he would purposely lose Takumi's challange to please the fans. If you support Phoenix then please register or log in to Capcom Unity, go to the Suggestions Box, and vote on all the Phoenix Wright suggestions from the first 10 pages and make your own. We are dominating the suggestions box and no doubt will have our voice be heard by Capcom.

Its bad enough that they took out Phoenix, but they took out the Punisher?!? He would've been so great!
  • JLthatshilarious - July 29, 2010 12:59 a.m.

Well, just because it isn't Phoenix doesn't mean that an AA character isn't gonna be in there. Phoenix doesn't really fit, but Apollo/Franzy/Godot would be pretty cool/plausible fighters. Godot Optic beam FTW!
  • Psylockerules - July 28, 2010 11:33 p.m.

she hulk is awesome if true, no emma frost is a mistake given her popularity. also where is PSYLOCKE!??!!??!
  • DarkTone - July 28, 2010 11:04 p.m.

I promised I wouldn't cry about Phoenix, but if Jean Grey a.k.a Phoenix was to appear...
  • Valntyne - July 28, 2010 10:26 p.m.

Meh, never played P. W.(DS lacking) so cant say I care, but (pardon my comic book ignorance) but isn't She-Hulk a bit reduntant, since Hulk is already there? Is there much of a difference between the two? P.S. I feel the God Hand-less pain too.
  • Cyberninja - July 28, 2010 9:29 p.m.

sounds good anyway i bet they will have phoenix wright in the final game and just did this to shut fans up for now.
  • Psyphos - July 28, 2010 8:29 p.m.

2nd Paragraph, 4th line down, the word "probably" was given an extra "l". It's bugging me.
  • Xplosive59 - July 28, 2010 8:11 p.m.

how come it seems most of the badass characters such as the punisher get the axe while some how lame ones still get into the game, there is still deadpool but still the marvel roster seems very tame in terms of badassiness
  • Conman93 - July 28, 2010 8:07 p.m.

^ SUSTAINED! Was really hoping for Phoenix, but I guess we can't always get what we want :( Game will still be fantastic though
  • SillyPigeon - July 28, 2010 7:59 p.m.

  • Ultimadrago - July 28, 2010 7:49 p.m.

No P.W.? First of all, F-this-world if this deem true. Secondly, Amaterasu will be backup if this is true. Lastly, She-Hulk instead? HELL NO! Having a similar/same occupation of P.W. doesn't count. Capcom...FIX IT!
  • Twizinator - July 28, 2010 7:09 p.m.

Dante and Deadpool for backup reCaptcha: taco <-- ftw!!!
  • Felixthecat - July 28, 2010 7:08 p.m.

No Phoenix Wright = :( Oh well, it's not too bad, the game looks amazing anyway, but I thought Daredevil would of been in MvC3 at least. Again, it doesn't matter, I just want to see who else they will add.
  • VyseTheTetrisdork - July 28, 2010 7:08 p.m.

So, we will have 2 characters that break the fourth wall then, huh?
  • Twizinator - July 28, 2010 7:07 p.m.

NO PHOENIX WRIGHT?!?!? noooooooooooooo... i guess i'll just have to play as Okami: Ace Sun-Goddess ftw
