Keep 2,000 friends close on PS4

"How many friends can Xbox One users have?" Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton asked. "One thousand, Mr. Tretton," his assistant responded. "What's two times bigger than that?" Tretton asked, too busy remembering, longing for a crowded convention center cheering his every word to do arithmetic. "Two thousand, Mr. Tretton," his assistant answered.

"PS4 users can have 2,000 friends," Tretton said after a few seconds, and grinned.

At least, that's roughly how we think the decision was made. Other common PlayStation 4 questions are cleared up in this official video, like whether PS4 has party chat (it does), and even the specific shade of black used for PS4's design (hint, it's not "Piano" any more, but it is still Black).

My favorite part was when she just set the ps3 down with a straight face in response to the question.

Because a normal person is totally going to have more than 1000 friends...

I can see needing more than a 100 but does anyone really need this many friends? Online notifications would be incredibly annoying i'd imagine.

basically sony is just closely watching every move Microsoft is making and does the exact same thing except they take it one step further

I think your a little confused, or maybe your just being sarcastic but at any rate It's been the "What do we do now" crew at MICROSFT that has done a complete 180 spin on what they wanted for the direction of the Xbox One just because of poor pre-sales numbers. And if anyone really believes it was the customers lashing out you really don't understand business. As we have seen, It has been SONY in first place with all the things done correctly as Microsot scrambles to add them to the Xbox one, Microsoft dropped the ball this time and have made allot of us look very carefully at what they have done as we question if the can ever be trusted again, Now as for Sony following Microsoft ..... that's on of the biggest jokes of this year. Microsoft is doing everything in its power to duplicate what Sony offered and announced at every turn, this has made Microsoft Weak and showing no direction, this should concern Consumers as well as Gamers alike as we see more Microsoft Xbox one team scramble to copy and add everything Sony had announced to make it look like its on the same playing field.... But Microsoft cant fix what has been done. Question is when will Microsoft stop being so pathetic and own up to the facts that they screwed up just like Sony did with the release of the PS3, Sony fixed it this time around and now Microsfts Arrogance put it in a bad postion that will make it more difficult for it to recover from. Disclaimer: I have been employed in the industry for 28 years, the backlash against Microsot and the Xbox One is very real and it has placed them in a very difficult position. In all those years my colleagues including myself have never seen such a disgruntled upset confused bunch of people, and no wonder the base was upset, Gamers are very passionate individual's and when you seemingly pull the rug out from under them and then try to sew the rug back up to make it look like it hasn't been damaged, it sends a strong message that the Gamer/Consumer wasn't really at the hart of the design (xbox one) and thoes services being offered, but when over shadowed by your competitor (Sony) you will (Microsoft) throw everything away and match that so not lose your Capitol investment.

I believe what he was trying to say is that since Sony has clearly taken the lead with public opinion, they are closely watching MS to cut them off every time they try to recover. Sony is trying to bury MS while they have the momentum. They figure why stop at steamrolling them during E3? Now they can just what other details MS has and one up them to add insult to injury. Sony: Trolling MS since somewhat recently. As for the actual 2,000 amount for the the friendslist, I see it as a future proofing. Say you want to add greater facebook integration for those who want it? Well the PS4 can handle that amount. It's a "feature" that lets Sony one up Microsoft, but also for people who actually care about the number, well hey I'm sure it's plenty high for them. I personally would like some kind of self imposed cap because without the 100 limit right now, my list would have runneth over. 150 would be all I need, just because some people end up having me add their alts or new accounts and I'm never sure which ones to delete and keep.
