Today's press conference from Microsoft's X06 show in Barcelona, Spain was full of amazing surprises. Not the least of which was the confirmation that the new HD DVD drive for the 360 will hit retail shelves in November of this year at a price tag of merely $199.
As one of the key points of contention in the all out war between Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360, it's clear that Microsoft is hell bent on beating Sony to the punch at every turn. As the battle between HD DVD and Sony's Blu-Ray technology heats up, the relatively early release of the 360's HD DVD player and the cheap price point (if you've already got a 360, that is) could be the deciding factor that finally grants Microsoft the living room supremacy it's sought for so long.
