Crackdown and Dead Rising 2 going free on Xbox Live

Microsoft is to make Crackdown, Dead Rising 2 and DR2 prologue Case Zero free to download next month as part of its Games with Gold program. Announced at E3 in June, the program will provide every Xbox Live Gold member access to two free Xbox 360 game downloads per month until December 31.

Games with Gold kicked off in June with Fable 3, which was followed by Defense Grid: The Awakening and Assassin's Creed 2 in July. New games become available on the 1st and 16th of each month, with Crackdown available from tomorrow and Dead Rising 2 and Case Zero from the middle of August. Halo 3 is also set to be included in the program at some point.

In our Crackdown review, we said the open-world game’s superhero powers and coop mode alone made it worth recommending. In our Dead Rising 2 review, we said the zombie gorefest offers crazy, imaginative fun in abundance, and in our DR2 Case Zero review, we said the title has hiccups in its ability to entertain but also awesome weapons and a good deal of humour and charm.

Both games look fun and considering they're free who can complain. The fact that Microsoft is unloading some of its best sellers for free makes sense. There are always going to be some big great games that for whatever reason I just never got around to playing and probably never would have without them being free so quit whining people. When Nintendo re-releases their old blockbusters everyone praises them as heroes but when microsoft does it everybody calls them cheap assholes? doesn't make sense

Microsoft doesn't really understand what a 'deal' is...

"Free" seems like a pretty good deal to me. I loved Fable 2, didn't get Fable 3 due to the mixed reviews but would have picked it up used eventually. Never planned on playing Crackdown or Dead Rising, now I can and if I like them enough, I'll buy the sequels/future games. So what that some of these games can be purchased for $10 used, it' still $10 I don't have to spend.

Free is relative when your competitor is completely killing it. At a certain point, a free game becomes less and less interesting until the time it takes to play it isn't worth the free-ness (about 4 years sounds about right). Also, if you ever had any interest in any of these games, wouldn't you have already gotten them? The point is, this free give-away costs them absolutely nothing because they never would have gotten the money for them anyways - that kind of defeats the purpose of a give-away.

Will get Dead Rising 2 and Case Zero.

I have to wait until the 16th for DR2? I hope my gold lasts that long...

great! more games I already own and won't be able to get on my silver account anyways! Thanks Microsoft!

why should you get them? you have a silver account anyways. Quite whining

I played the hell out of Crackdown but only managed to get 499 out of 500 agility orbs. Maybe this will be a good reminder to go back and get that last one.

Woow, two I'm actually interested in. And I never got around to DR2, either!

I might give Crackdown a spin but I hate the Dead Rising franchise.

I would never have payed for either of these games, but having them for free is nice.
