It’s not a huge surprise to find out Borderlands will be getting a sequel. Now we have confirmation though from PAX (via Eurogamer).
Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said, "it's no secret. Obviously there's going to be another Borderlands”. At the mention of the name 'Borderlands 3' however, he added that "we don't know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know". Because, you know, the series is like that.
It sounds like it’s all pretty much at ‘idea’ stage at the moment. Borderlands writer Mikey Neumann is messing about with the idea of adding a son to one of the established characters, the mechanic Scooter, but that's about all the info there is save for artist Sergi Brosa revealing he's been working with Gearbox on the sequel for the last three months as a character concept artist.
Neumann does the voice for Scooter, and and the idea for his son, Scooper, came after he pitch shifted some Scooter dialogue up, “so it sounds like a chipmunk and it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard”.
That’s all we have for now, but chances are when there is more to see we might get it via a Battleborn Easter egg. There are already some from the previous Borderlands games hidden away in Gearbox’s MOBA shooter, however, both randy Pitchford and Battleborn creative director Randy Varnell hinted at the possibility of slipping in Borderlands sequel nods in future DLC.
