Borderlands 4 will continue to be supported says Gearbox owner, and "we still are very optimistic about that title" despite launch being a "bit softer than we would've liked"

Borderlands 4 will continue to be supported by Gearbox Software, says parent company Take-Two Interactive, which is still "very optimistic" about the looter shooter, five months after a launch it originally admitted was a "bit softer than we would've liked."

In a new interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says that "we're still supporting Borderlands." He continues: "We'll have new content coming, we have updates coming and we still are very optimistic about that title.

"We think we'll continue to have strong sell-through of titles like that."

This echoes a statement made in the company's latest financial earnings call by Take-Two president Karl Slatoff. "Gearbox Software will continue to support Borderlands 4 with new content and updates, and we expect the title to achieve strong sell-through over its lifetime," he says.

This optimism from the parent company comes despite things not being entirely smooth sailing for the game since its release. Back in November, just under two months on from its initial launch, Zelnick said that "the release was a bit softer than we would have liked," pointing to the PC performance woes the looter shooter was up against at launch. Even so, it set a number of sales records in the US, including being the fastest-selling game in the series' history.

And then there's the ongoing situation with the indefinitely delayed Switch 2 release. Despite featuring in the first big Switch 2 reveal Direct, then later being given an October release date, it was eventually delayed due to needing "additional development and polish time."

Now, it's been revealed that Take-Two has "made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU," which doesn't sound particularly promising. Instead, Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis says, "Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game."
