You'll really want to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a Sphero BB-8

As if you didn't want one enough before, you practically need Sphero's absurdly cute phone controlled BB-8 now. The company has released an update that means everyone's favourite orange and white droid can watch your Blu-Ray of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with you and will react accordingly. Yep, adorable.

Sphero recommends that you pop him on his charging base so he stays juiced for the whole experience (the wee soul only has 60 mins battery) and using the microphone on your phone, BB-8 will recognise the audio of the movie and enjoy the action with you. According to The Wall Street Journal, he'll cower from Kylo Ren and whoop when Han and Chewie appear. He'll even chirp happily away to himself when he's rolling around on screen.

The Sphero BB-8 has had a number of updates since his release in September that includes dialogue from the Force Awakens and new holograms of C3P0 and R2-D2. There's even a gesture controlled version coming out this year to make you feel like you're truly using the Force by wearing a handy wristband. If you absolutely need him to watch with you, BB-8 is available on Amazon for £110. The Force Awakens is out now on Blu-Ray, DVD and digital in the USA, while those of us on this side of the pond have to wait until April 11 for the digital edition and April 18 for Blu-Ray and DVD.
