Winona Ryder confirms Beetlejuice 2

Talk of a sequel to Beetlejuice has been churning for years, and now one of the stars of the 1988 original is adding fuel to the fire. During an interview segment on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Winona Ryder - who played the adolescent Lydia Deetz - verified the existence of the long-awaited follow-up.

"Um. I think I can confirm it. Because Tim Burton did this interview," says Ryder. "Like, it was very hush-hush, top secret, 'I don't know, it might happen. I don't know.' And then he was doing some press for Big Eyes [with] an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's going to be in it.' If he said it, I can. But I really don't know much more than anybody else."

Even though the film has yet to receive the all-important greenlight from the studio, the fact that director Tim Burton has championed the sequel is, to some fans, the next best thing. "I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character," Burton said last year. "There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”

Both Burton and Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, have ardently supported the possibly of a second outing for the bio-exorcist since 2011. In light of Ryder's latest update, it looks as though the pieces might be finally slotting into place.
