The Host gets a first poster

The Host , the latest adaptation from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, has released a first official poster featuring an eerie close-up of young star Saoirse Ronan.

Sporting the ominous tagline, "you will be one of us", the new one-sheet is a simple affair, comprising of a close-up of Ronan's face, with special attention drawn to the ethereal glow surrounding the pupil of her eye.

In the novel, such a ring around a person's eye demonstrates that they have been occupied by one of a race of invading aliens, known as Souls. These souls have all but taken complete control of the Earth's population by the time the film is set, but some still provide resistance.

Ronan plays Melanie, one such survivor, whose consciousness is under attack from a Soul named Wanderer. However, the attempted takeover is complicated by Melanie's involvement in a heated love triangle (we told you it was written by the same woman who did Twilight ), which seems to confuse the extra-terrestrial invader.

Directed by Andrew Niccol and co-starring Max Irons, Jake Abel and Diane Kruger, The Host opens in the UK on 29 March 2013. Let the teenage squealing begin!
