Rumour: Has Sylvester Stallone joined Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

Sylvester Stallone may have missed out on the Best Supporting Actor Oscar last month, but it looks like his luck could be changing for the better. According to the New York Daily News, the actor may be set to star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Stallone was spotted leaving the Atlanta hotel where the cast is currently staying, clutching what looked like a copy of the script, and getting into a car "usually assigned to Chris Pratt". Suspicious.

If true, this casting news would reunite Stallone with his Tango & Cash co-star Kurt Russell. And it wouldn't be Stallone's first time in the comic book movie genre; lest we forget, he played the title role in the 1995's Judge Dredd. Thankfully, superhero movies have come a long way since then, and Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best around.

Stallone's presence on set could indicate his role goes beyond a simple cameo or voiceover, which makes this news even more interesting. Who could he be playing? Marvel have yet to confirm or deny the news, but if this is legit than we can probably expect an official announcement soon (at which point we will all start high-fiving each other Tango & Cash style...).

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit UK cinemas on April 28, 2017 and open in US theatres on May 5, 2017.
