Wonder no more, webheads. Activision and its studio Beenox have lifted the veil on Spiderman: Edge of Time, the next in a long line of games starring Marvel's famous webcrawler which will see players leaping between the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 timelines to set right the chaotic events caused by the untimely death of one Peter Parker (dun, dun, duuuuuuh).
"We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance," said Beenox boss Dee Brown.
Beenox has been riding high since the critical and retail success of its first Spider-Man attempt, Shattered Dimensions, prompted Activision to give the Quebec-based studio full domain over the Spider-Man videogame franchise.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time has already started kicking up dust on Marvel's HeroHQ Facebook page, and will make its first appearance at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco this weekend. Activision is planning a Fall retail release, but has not confirmed which friendly neighborhood systems it will target. Our guess is it will be available on anything that can play games.

Spider-Man 2099 comic book co-creator Peter David is overseeing Edge of Time's storyline. As the title suggests, the game will unfold over two connected Spider-Man timelines, with actions and decisions made in the Amazing Spider-Man levels to have a significant impact on Spider-Man 2099's reality.
