There isn't much better advertising than having a direct connection to what is one of the biggest movies ever. Thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day absolutely smashing the box office, two of Insomniac's games starring the wallcrawler are charting very well on Steam.
That's right, not one, but two of the masked menace's biggest video games have climbed the charts. J Jonah Jameson will be furious. According to the Steam Top Sellers list on SteamDB, Spider-Man 2 is fifth on Valve's platform, while the first is at ninth.
The two of them in the top ten is a nice little bit of synergy. Brand New Day just started its theatrical run in the US, Britain, and many other major territories, bringing in an obscene $927 million over the course of the weekend.
Watching Peter Parker's latest Hollywood outing clearly inspired at least a few fans to go home and look into if there are any games that have the similar energy. Lo and behold, there are several, and Insomniac's releases are at the top of the pile.
It's impossible to say for certain, of course - the well-timed discounts may have convinced a couple of buyers as well. But between the film and Spider-Man 2 being 33% off, it's hard to imagine any other causes for such a clean jump up through the ranks.
It won't hurt that there's a costume based on Brand New Day now as well, for maximum synchronicity. Insomniac's first Spider-Man is down by 60% too, letting you pick up both for the price of a completely new release at full price.
If you're someone who's made these purchases, might I suggest Miles Morales - Spider-Man as well? It's considered something of a sidequel, since it effectively bridges the other two Spidey games from Insomniac, but it's as good as either, if shorter and more contained. Don't gloss over it - Miles is a worthy successor and partner to Peter, and you'll learn exactly why by playing.
