Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland are stars on the rise. The former made her mark on the world as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the latter is arguably the best Peter Parker put to film in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Soon, the two will co-star in a sci-fi flick called Chaos Walking, an adaptation of a book trilogy by the same name by Patrick Ness. You might also be familiar with Ness' other works, including A Monster Calls and the Doctor Who spin-off, Class.
Ridley shared the first image of the film on her Facebook page, and - for better or worse - it looks pretty much how you would expect a modern-day adaptation of a YA novel series to look.
I don't want to spoil what happens over the course of the whole story, and the film may differ from the print version, but here's the setup: Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) lives on a colony world in far-off space. He has grown up being told that a disease caused by alien spores killed off the female settlers and made the males telepathic. This telepathy is unchecked though, and can't be simply turned on or off - the flood of constant thoughts and emotions is called "the Noise." However, one day Todd discovers a place where there is no Noise, and a girl named Viola Eade (Daisy Ridley) whose thoughts he cannot hear. Together, the two set off on an adventure to uncover the truth of the planet and the Noise. Oh, and Mads Mikkelsen is playing the bad guy.
