Ryan Reynolds teases Cable introduction in Deadpool 2

If initial reactions are anything to go by, there's a good chance that Deadpool will be a hit at the box office when it's released next month. A big profit will surely ensure sequels, and if that does end up coming to pass it seems likely that Cable will make an appearance.

Ryan Reynolds stuck around after one of the recent fan screenings in NYC. According to ComicBook.com, when the actor suggested a sequel was in the works an audience member shouted "Cable and Deadpool!", to which Reynolds replied "Your lips to God’s ears, my friend. Believe me, that’s being talked about", followed by a smile, a nod, and raised eyebrows for good measure.

For those not in the know, Cable is a time travelling mutant who also happens to be the son of X-Men members Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (clone of Jean Grey). Since 2004, he and Deadpool starred in a comic series together that ran for over 50 issues. Considering the popularity of the character, it's a little surprising that Cable hasn't already made an appearance in Fox's X-Men universe, and having him show up in a Deadpool sequel would be a smart move.

Directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller and Gina Carano, Deadpool will open in UK cinemas on February 4, 2016 before arriving in US theatres on February 12, 2016.
