Jena Malone's mystery character is cut from Batman v Superman

The mystery surrounding Jena Malone's secretive role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice won't be uncovered anytime soon, because the actress' performance has been cut entirely from the theatrical version of the movie. It's a bit of a shame, considering the flurry of speculation about who she might be playing. Early rumors pegged her as Batman's sidekick Robin and more recently she's been linked to the role of Barbara Gordon.

Malone's deleted role is just one casualty of the movie's final edit, which is understandable, as the theatrical cut clocks in at 2 hours and 31 minutes. Luckily, we'll still get to see her scenes on home video. Apparently, her role is vital to the expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe - but not vital to the Batman V Superman plot - so she'll turn up in the R-rated Ultimate Edition that's due out on Blu-ray.
