Gran Turismo 5 will not meet its scheduled November 2 release date.
Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital are "confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches," wrote Sony producer Taku Imasaki in a PlayStation Blog post this morning.
Gran Turismo fans are used to delays. Sony has been talking about GT5 for years, practically since the PS3 was released nearly four years ago. We heard it was coming out in 2009 but that didn't happen. Then it was 2010, but with no specific date. Finally, at this year's E3, developer Polyphony Digital, and Sony, confirmed an actual,real release date. For the first time we were led to believe there would be no more hold-ups.
But alas, apparently there are still some last-minute production issues that need to be tied up.
For now, Sony says GT5 will still be available this "holiday season," but we can't really be sure of anything anymore. It stings, Polyphony, it stings.
To put things into perspective, GT5 was first announced at E3 2006, in June. Over the last four years, 150 people have worked on the project as a massive budget of $60 million has been poured into the game's production.
It's yet to be seen if the end result will be worth all that effort. The game has to actually come out before we can make that call.
