First Trailer arrives for Mirror Mirror

The first official trailer has landed for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror , and it already seems safe to say that it's an entirely different beast from Snow White And The Huntsman .

Whilst its K-Stew starring competitor has adopted a dark, brooding tone with heavy emphasis on bone-jarring action, Mirror Mirror seems determined to aim for the family market with a frantic volley of slapstick and one-liners.

Julia Roberts is in full-on panto dame mode as the wisecracking Queen, whilst Lily Collins is peppy and perky as Snow White. Armie Hammer plays the handsome prince, although he too is expected to join in with the comedic mugging, particularly when he gets a dose of “puppy love” potion.

Take a look at the trailer below…

Now, whilst we always knew this one was going to aim for a lighter tone than Snow White And The Huntsman , some of the jokes on display here don’t bode well for the end product. “Snow White?” exclaims one dwarf. “Snow who?” asks his pal. “Snow way!” quips another. Yes, this exchange of dialogue actually happens.

So if by “lighter” Singh was aiming for “extremely camp”, the trailer can be regarded as an unqualified success. It looks to us as if this one will be looking to score with the kiddie market before Snow White And The Huntsman pitches itself at those a little older. That said, the finished article might yet be a little less screwball than this breathless teaser would suggest, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Mirror Mirror opens in the US on 16 March 2012.
