The first picture from the Thor movie has been revealed and blogger Alasdair Stuart delivers his immediate response
The age of the Norseman appears to be upon us. In the space of the last two days, two shots from the upcoming Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh have been revealed.
The first, broken by Latino Review , is an unofficial shot - now apparently removed at the request of Paramount - of the Destroyer the film's second villain. Long term fans of the series should be getting excited right about now, as the Destroyer is one of the definitive Thor villains. Created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, it's a suit of enchanted armour that needs a host to survive, stands nine feet tall and has come close to killing Thor on several occasions. The iron fist that Loki's glove is wrapped around, it looks sure to make life very difficult for the God of Thunder. And let's face it how interesting would the film be if he had an easy time of it?
Speaking of Thor, the God of Thunder himself has made his appearance in the first official still. Played by Chris Hemsworth, Kirk's dad in the Star Trek reboot, he cuts an intimidating, and oddly troubled, figure in the first official still. Hemsworth is both unrecognizable and distinctly Nordic with long hair and a beard, whilst the outfit is vintage Thor, combining armour with a cape. That works. Which is, let's face it, rare.
With a supporting cast including Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo, the Viking Years!), Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo, Thor is set for release next year. Start drafting those hammer time jokes now.
